Abraham the faithful and trustworthy
Who was more faithful than Abraham or obedient? He was willing to sacrifice his own son in order to proof his aligned and total submission to the will of God. Abraham is not just a perfect example of a faithful individual but one who is poor in spirit, willing to give back all that God has given him. He will give up his child of promise, he will live the comfort and security of his hometown Ur, to show his absolute faith and obedience first to God. Our faith is only as strong as the Object of our faith and that is Jesus Christ.
The bible talks about the trustworthiness of Abraham. He was called at an old age of 75. God’s timing is perfect and without blemish, you might be in a place where you feel unable to believe and hope in the future, I am here to remind you that, you are part of a big plan. Stay true and faithful like Abraham. God never fails. At the age of 80, God gifted him with Isaac. It might seem impossible to the world but believe God.
Abraham lived in Mesopotamia, known by scholars as one of the first civilizations in the world. Scripture tells us that Abram was a native of Ur, a city located in the region of Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia is credited with being the first known civilization in the world, and according to archaeologists, Ur was a major port city and urban centre located on the Persian Gulf. It was from this seaside city that God called Abram. Having spent his life in a bustling city at the edge of the water, Abram must have found a nomad’s life a big transition. Abram was also raised by idol-worshiping parents. Gods call must have been confusing and shocking, nothing usual for him but he remind steadily and faithfully fuelling his love and faith in God, when he fund this new glorious call.
Abram’s choice to follow God’s leading, lead him away from the familiar to a place of total surrender. Knowing and accepting a God who has chosen to talk to him directly must have been unbelievable because what the familiar was then was that these God’s neither talked or moved, they needed the help of humans.
Abraham’s lies about Sarah being his sister weren’t exactly lies. Well what indeed was not a lie was totally selfish and an action that portrayed a person who lacked courage to face the simple natural things, he was reedy to sacrifice his wife just to save his neck. Abraham was not a perfect husband, who got it all the time. He was a husband who trusted and obeyed God sincerely. Every marriage is full of mistakes as two people become one, but Abraham made some big mistakes—and didn’t seem to learn from them! While traveling, Abraham told two different kings that his wife, Sarah, was actually his sister so that he would not be harmed. (Talk about being in the doghouse!) Fortunately, both kings discovered the truth also spared Abraham and Sarah, returning her to her husband. Sara must have lived a life of adventure beside her husband but full of disappointments as Abraham on several occasions could not be the hero she needed.
As the tenth-generation descendant of Noah, his life was written for him, because through him all generation is called and created to inherit the promise. Abraham’s grandson Jacob and his wives had twelve sons who became the heads of the twelve tribes of Israel. Abraham helped usher in a promised nation and promised land, but all he ever owned was a burial site. In God’s first promise to Abram, God told him to leave his father’s household to travel to a new land. Abraham was a great example of faith as he ventured off in obedience to God, yet he never experienced the fulfilment of this promise in his lifetime. In fact, Abraham lived his life as a nomad, constantly traveling from place to place. The only land he personally owned was a burial site—a cave in a field Abraham purchased from the Hittites so he could bury Sarah when she died. So sad as sad can be. This burial site served as a representation of the promised land that Joshua would someday conquer.
Isaac and Ishmael had six half-brothers. After Sarah died at the age of 127, Abraham took another wife, Keturah, and together they had six sons. Their names were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. (Genesis 25:1–2). When Abraham died, Isaac and Ishmael buried their father with Sarah.
When we act on faith when we can’t even see the promises of God, we are justified by this faith as those who believe in Christ Whom they have not seen to receive the ultimate promise of eternal life that they have not yet possessed. That is why Abraham is also called the father of Faith and one of the once written the wall of fame in Hebrews 11. It was “by faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God. Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as many as the innumerable. grains of sand body the seashore” (Heb 11:8-10, 12).
When a man walk like Abraham, there will be yet one whom will accept God and His will, God being Faithful will use such an individual for His honourable purpose. Such a man will be lead by the Holy Spirit, now that the Holy Spirit is available for even greater works. I pray that you will surely fulfil destiny and in righteousness will you rule your home and over come the enemy at all times. Amen. Stay faithful and obedient.
