Arielle! THE ALTERNATE ME

Maryma, they say I am,
I swing between rebellion and bitterness,
Or i’m I truly beloved?

No I said to me,
I am just being Maryam,
One who’s tamed.

Tradition taught me to be mute,
It says you’d be quite,
For you are a girl.

Else you’d be tagged rebellious,
One who’s to be talked about on the path to streams,
And the village square.

Tradition taught me fear is respect,
It says; Maryam you’d quiver and shrink at the sight of elders,
And inwardly, I ask.

I’m I a deviant!?
It says to be timid is courteous,
It says you’d never, make an eye contact with the elderly.

It says my words can’t stand against that of an older folk,
Oh! How that I’m tamed,
How I lack expression.

How much courage I have lost,
How mediocre I have become,
How much esteem I have lost?

Then, I ask,
Don’t you believe in you anymore?
Arielle Arielle! I said to me,
You’re a Lioness of God.

Not just Maryam,
You’re fearless and courageous,
Yes! You’re untamed and bold.

Arielle; the lioness isn’t timid,
You’re not to fear but feared,
Oh that you fight valiantly, fiercely in dignity.

Oh yes! She stands for the truth in humility,
Not minding whose words are against hers.

THE REALITY OF A NORTHERN GIRL CHILD

NOTE

To my dear young Northern girls, you are made for more, break out of that shell and make meaning of life. There’s no pride in timidity and mediocrity. When scripture says “For I have not given you the spirit of fear and timidity but of courage and sound mind” it wasn’t gender specific.

You are made for more my dear young girls. Never let anyone tame you to think any less. Marriage is good but its not a stop point of purpose but rather a major starting point in the fulfilment of purpose.

The World is your stage.
