Christian Mission: Is there a Place in Mission for Women? By Ibrahim Nathaniel

What Part Can Women Play in Missions?

This is an interesting question, the first thing here is for us to see what the scriptures say about women;

Galatians 3:26 – 29 (ESV)

for in Christ Jesus, you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, THERE IS NO MALE AND FEMALE, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise. (Emphasis mine)

Having seen that, it is important to note that also that it is God who puts us into the ministry in the specific field He desires. There may be customs and traditions that have a thing about women, but in the place of prayer, this can be sorted out with God. Remember not all of us might be out in the field because not all aspects of missions will require you to be in the field; we can all pray, we can all send, we can all mobilize and we can as well all go depending on where God is sending us.

Let me explain a little further, I believe women can be involved in every aspect of missions, they can bring their gifting and talents to bear in all aspects. If any woman sensed the call of God to any People Group and/or location, she can learn from the likes of;

Mary Mitchell Slessor (1848 – 1915) who because of her understanding of the native language and her bold personality gained the trust and acceptance of the locals and was able to spread Christianity while promoting women’s rights and protecting native children. She is most famous for having stopped the common practice of infanticide of twins in Okoyong, an area of Cross River State, Nigeria.,

Gladys May Aylward (1902 – 1970) founded an orphanage in Taiwan where she worked until her death.

Amy Beatrice Carmichael (1867 – 1951) opened an orphanage and founded a mission in Dohnavour. She served in India for 55 years without a furlough and so many others like them.

I have shared about reaching out to the lost in some places and women who don’t even have a formal education but dedicated food vendors asked me what should we do because every day we come in contact with hundreds of them? I said that is your mission field start from there, your marketplace can be your mission field you don’t have to close shop and go to the bush looking for who to reach.

Just prayerfully look around you, you will certainly find what God wants you to do and if it requires traveling He will direct your path.

Remember you are important to God, come and receive His salvation today. Accept Jesus Christ to be your personal Lord and savior and you will be saved. Confess that He is God, the one who came through the virgin birth, that He lived, died, rose, and surely will return soon. Soon might be today.

Now that you are saved! Join a Bible-believing church. Make Jesus Christ first place in your life. He will reveal you things you can never imagine. Why not become a Missionary, now that you are born again?
