Old Man after Sex

An old Man after Sex at the Ministry of Education.

God has been so faithful to me and He has shown me evidently how He can finish what He has started in my life, so I have no doubt of where He is taking me.

In the year 2011, after so many years of attempting jamb, I always got more than the cut-off mark, but somehow no admission for years. Imagine buying a form every year for more than ten years while trying to reseat for Literature in English…….this is not news in Nigeria. Difficult times don’t last but tough people do. One might have to endure the callous tongue-lash of people, you  begin to hear things like; she does not have the brains, there is something wrong with her, who messed with her destiny, she is just slaying everywhere without a degree, marry sef, why does her parent insist on pushing through with her schooling, they are just girls after all.  Plenty gossip no dey finish at all……

Every year while others moved ahead, I prepared for yet another Jamb, WAEC, or NECO, I  became a regular customer. They nicely even joked about not wanting my money again. Those days were dark, embarrassing, depressing, and disappointing.  I started a diploma in Mass Communication at the University of Abuja while applying for the same institute and others.

Someone suggested I try abroad. My first reaction was, no way, I knew the implication of money.  “Well, we will get you a sponsor”. Although your parents will raise cash for accommodation and travel”.  My parents were not comfortable with the process but supported me prayerfully.

Got admission but I needed a signed letter from the minister of education. A new law for every intending Nigerian student. A form of checks and balances. They are to investigate financial capability, in the place of a sponsor, check the individual out.  So I started to do the clearance at the ministry of education. Got cleared and all my documents with their seal. The last office where I will be given the later authorization stamped with the minister of education seal and a signature on her behalf. Hmmm

I met a very wicked old man there. He had Christian inscriptions all pasted around his office, in my mind, I was like thank God he is Christian, but nothing is as it seems, you can not judge a book by its cover. Take note, I dressed like a girl from the North, I even wore a vivid head tie each time I went to that office. My journey of four weeks of heartache began.

The old man began, “young lady I don’t think I believe you have enough to travel with. There is something off about your sponsors”. The only thing he was right about. He continued, ”wow, you are so pretty, innocent” he would have said naively. ”You are so beautiful you can have whatever you want”. At this time I was in a state of confusion and disbelief. This man, I can almost call Daddy o, and how does beauty relate to the signing of the letter. He looked at me and said wait for me outside. I went out, began to pray and cry. A white man came close enough to speak to me. “why are you so sad?” I will be fine I said. “All right” he responded, “smile then”, wished me well, and left. I came every day there for two weeks, when it reaches my turn, he will smile and tell me to wait behind, by the closing time he will say “come tomorrow again beautiful girl”

To be continued tomorrow🙃
