HOW TO ESCAPE THE TRAP OF THE BODY

A man is essentially a spirit who dwells in a body and has a soul. The soul is the link between the body and the spirit. Your soul is either ruled by your flesh or your spirit.

The word of God tells us that the flesh has its own desires. In Galatians 5:17, we were made to understand that our flesh/Body conflicts with the Spirit because the flesh seeks to please itself, and the spirit seeks to please God.

A man can either be ruled by the desires of the flesh or by his spirit depending on the one to the man submits his will. God wants us to be led by his spirit and not by the flesh but most at es Christians are overcome by the weakness of the flesh which can be manifested in several ways such as pride, anger, glutton, lust, and so on.

The danger of the flesh is that it can get you trapped and lead you into the path of unrighteousness, all the way back to your old life.

How to escape the traps of the flesh

1) Offer your body as a Living Sacrifice

Romans 12:1
I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

This scripture simply means that you offer your body to God as a sacrifice. When you give your body to God as a living sacrifice, you won’t go off to do anything you like because you know that you are no longer yours, you have been dedicated to God.

2) Bring your body into subjection

Can you imagine a slave telling his master what to do? Making your body your slave simply means putting it in its rightful place. You bring your body into subjection by not yielding to its desire but doing what the word of God says.

In 1 Corinthians 7:27, Paul said “But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest when I have preached to others myself should be disqualified”.

Paul said “I” meaning it is your job to discipline your body, discipline simply means denial, you discipline by denying flesh its things, and by doing so you are bringing your body into subjection.

3) Do what the spirit desires

You defeat your flesh by doing what the Spirit desires, we have talked about how the spirit is against the flesh, so by doing what your spirit needs, you are automatically weakening the flesh for instance the flesh can be weakened by fasting but your spirit is empowered, the same also applies to praying and also walking in love weakens the flesh.
